I'm a Berlin-based artist and muralist. Born in Russia, I moved to the US in my teens and studied illustration at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. That's where I first started painting on buildings, in broad daylight, and haven’t stopped since. Thus forged a resistance to time and weather constraints, a healthy disregard of authority, but above all, a love for work that is inseparable from its place and its public. The thrill of transforming a space with some brushwork, the challenges and exchanges a wall brings, the life each piece takes once I'm gone have led to murals becoming the core of my artistic practice in the past 20 years. My work has taken me to walls large and small across Europe and the US. And yes, I always look this serious when I'm painting.
about my process
Each mural is an exchange between my vision and the many factors that define a space. Place, size, theme, materials, and audience are all considered before an initial sketch. The sketches are refined until everyone is happy, and the painting can start! I do my murals freehand, with varying layers of paint depending on the depth the mural requires. I use acrylic, silicate, and other non-toxic paints.
